Considering this a hotel operated by a nearby university (where a lot of their on the job trainees for their Hotel and Restaurant Management program usually complete their internship hours) - the experience doesn't feel like it. It's a very well-kept, very professional hotel. Check-in was fast and I was allowed to check-in 2 hours before the intended check-in hours, which was great. The room I stayed in has been relatively refreshed, has a very sleek modern, boutique hotel look without feeling cheap or campy. Room was well-lit, relatively spacious for a couple and has a large bathroom for its size. Very clean, no signs of roaches or pests. No issues with the airconditioning and the TV. My room also has a good view towards one of the historical walls, and the Manila City Hall where you can see the working clock tower, surrounded by manicured greens of the golf course - a great view to both wake up and wind down. They have four restaurants that you can try. On the ground floor they have "Cioccolatta", a coffee shop that has their specialty churros for only 130 pesos, which can be a good afternoon snack. A pizzeria "Raffaela" is on the third floor, where you can try Italian-Filipino inspired dishes. I tried their Raffaela Ragout pasta (traditional meat sauce) and wasn't disappointed. On the ninth floor there's 9Spoons a restaurant offering Filipino dishes with a twist. At night 9Spoons transfers to the hotel's rooftop restaurant, Sky Deck, offering great views at night. You should try their Bayleaf Specialty Iced Tea and Chocolate Wall dessert :) The hotel is within the walled city of Intramuros, so immediately outside the hotel you can scale on the walls (which can be seen from some of the rooms). It's also just minutes away from Fort Santiago and churches like the Manila Cathedral and San Agustin Church.

The staff, historic ambience, included breakfast, room comfort including kettle, tea and coffee and a comfy bed; location to Manila's top attractions; and romantic evenings on the rooftop made Bayleaf a treasured experience and best memory. A hearty thank you to each polite, kind, and helpful staff member, even providing coconut creme substitute due to dairy allergy and ensured health safety by providing masks for those forgetting to be considerate. Congratulations to the architect and interior designer, to the breakfast chefs, and to all who make Bayleaf a top hotel. Bayleaf location is ideal, within walking distance to Manila's best historic restaurants, historic buildings, Chinatown, and a short taxi ride to Manila's fabulous art and anthropological museums and Manila's biggest market, Divisoria.

Right in the heart of Intramuros. Easy 10-minute stroll to SM Manila no streets to cross using the underpass and 20-minute walk to the Bureau of Immigration. The staff was fantastic, period. They went out of their way to help at every turn, every request or question. The breakfast buffet will satisfy both Western and Asian palettes. Lunch and dinners are both reasonably priced for a hotel of this statue in this area. I was hesitant when booking as I found reviews detailed enough to make an informed decision, I hope this review will provide assurance that others were somewhat lacking. This establishment is well worth the money. Bottom line: We will book here again if we need to be in this area and do not want to commute.

Location-wise it gets 10/10, if you intend to explore historic sites of Manila. Intramuros is the main city during Spanish colonial time, so you will find Spanish architectures and historic sites within walking distance. The hotel is located right beside Intramuros wall and 5 minutes walk from public transportation station. You can spend one or two days just walking around the hotel. There are few universities and schools nearby, so expect to see young crowd all day which enhance the vibrance of the location. Breakfast is decent and view from dining area is superb! Staffs are helpful. Hotel allowed us for early check-in at 12pm since we reached early.

The staff at Bayleaf are obviously "old hands" not necessarily in the sense that they have been working there for a long time but in the sense that they are acquainted with their customers especially those returning. Bayleaf is an old school hotel (immaculately clean) with its specific elegance yet without the airport-like impersonality of other bigger, higher class, Chinese-looking hotels in Manila. The roof restaurant/bar/smoking parlor are such a relief. Not the throbbing, relentless Manila barrio, not the ultra-elgant and souless Makati, but wonderfully intra Muros. Almost too good to be true. Will always return there, God willing.
